Thomas's Full Biography

Katie is a clinical assistant professor and chair of the Dunigan Family School of Nursing, teaching mainly at the Sophomore level. As a Perinatal clinical nurse specialist, Katie has worked as an advanced practice nurse in high-risk obstetrics at Tri-State Perinatology for over 10 years. She has worked in Obstetrics for most of her nursing career. She started her career in academia as an adjunct professor in 2006 teaching in pediatrics and obstetrics in the hospitals for UE. In 2018 she returned to her alma mater and began teaching full time as an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Evansville. Katie is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Educational Leadership. Outside of work, Katie lives with her husband and three active children in Newburgh, Indiana.

Mrs. Briana Alvey

Briana Alvey is a clinical assistant professor in the Dunigan Family School of Nursing. As an APRN specializing in women’s health, Briana has worked as an advanced practice nurse in women’s health for over ten years. She began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse in 2003 working at the bedside before obtaining her MSN and moving into the women’s health office setting. Additionally, Briana teaches various community education classes for Deaconess Women’s Hospital. She serves as an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor. She began her career in academia as an adjunct professor in 2018 teaching obstetrics in the hospital setting for Ivy Tech Community College. In January 2024, she began teaching full-time for the University of Evansville as an assistant professor of nursing at the sophomore and junior levels.

Outside of nursing, Briana is married to her husband of 25 years and resides in Dixon, Kentucky. She enjoys traveling, especially to visit her two children. Her oldest child resides in Atlanta, Georgia and her son is currently a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Mrs. Paige Baumann

Paige is a clinical assistant professor of nursing at the University of Evansville. She graduated from the University of Louisville with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2017. She graduated from Ball State University with her Masters of Science in Nursing (Nurse Educator Concentration) in 2021. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Paige’s clinical background is in medical-surgical nursing, including neurology, oncology, orthopedics, and trauma. She is credentialed as a Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses and a Certified Nurse Educator by the National League for Nursing.

In her free time, Paige enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, and reading.

Donna teaches at the sophomore and senior levels. Her primary clinical background is in emergency and critical care nursing, having practiced as a nurse in in adult, pediatric, and neonatal critical care areas. Additionally, she has served as a clinical educator in the acute care setting.

Mrs. Meagan McKain

Meagan Mckain has over a decade of critical care nursing experience, specializing in cardiac and neuro patients. Her clinical expertise quickly went on to support advanced certifications like the certified critical care nurse and advanced cardiac life support instructor. She also has a solid foundation in psychology, with a second BSN degree.

She completed her master’s degree in nursing education from Western Governors University after taking a break to have a baby during the COVID pandemic while working bedside nursing in the ICU. She has served as an adjunct professor since 2019 at UE, focusing on physical health assessment and critical care. Currently, she is the assistant professor of nursing and simulation lab coordinator.

In addition to academia, she is actively involved in Girl Scouts with her love for volunteering at Camp Koch. She loves encouraging young girls to build their confidence and leadership skills so much that she recently picked up lifeguarding and archery certifications. She loves spending her free time with her two girls and husband in the outdoors.

Joanie Moyer is a clinical assistant professor in the Dunigan Family School of Nursing. Joanie started as a certified nursing assistant in 2008, later returning to school and obtaining her LPN in 2012. Joanie graduated in 2016 from the ASN program at Lock Haven University in Clearfield, PA. Later finishing her BSN in 2020 and then Master of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governors University in 2022. Joanie began her career at the University of Evansville as an adjunct professor helping with clinical instructing of the 2022 senior class. In addition to coming to the University of Evansville to teach, Joanie works in the operating room as a circulating nurse at Deaconess Hospital. She was born in Massachusetts and raised in Pennsylvania. Joanie moved to Southern Indiana in December of 2016 and has plans to raise her two boys with her husband in the Princeton, IN area permanently. Her interests include outdoor activities as well as traveling with her goal being to visit all fifty states with her family before her sons graduate high school.

Rea's Full Biography

Melissa is a clinical assistant professor in the Dunigan Family School of Nursing and focuses on medical–surgical nursing throughout the lifespan and community health. As a certified gerontological clinical nurse specialist, Melissa worked as an advanced practice nurse in geriatric primary care for 12 years at St. Mary's Senior Care Clinic. In 2007, she started her career in academia as an adjunct professor teaching clinical gerontology at the University of Southern Indiana. In 2009, she returned to her alma mater and began teaching at the University of Evansville first as an adjunct professor and then in January of 2010 as an assistant professor of nursing.

Kacie is a clinical assistant professor of nursing at the University of Evansville. Her healthcare journey began in 2007 as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and she earned her associate's degree in nursing from Vincennes University in 2010. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012, Kacie continued working in medical-surgical nursing while also starting her teaching career in the acute care setting, where she has instructed patient care technicians, student nurses, and registered nurses.

In 2018, Kacie advanced her education by earning a Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in Nursing Education from Western Governors University. She has extensive clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing and has worked as a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner. Her leadership roles include serving as a team leader for interprofessional development education in the acute care setting and as an accreditation specialist, providing continuing education for nurses. Additionally, she has acted as a nursing academic success coach for remote learners.

Kacie is also an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor, as well as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) Instructor for the State of Indiana. Outside of her professional commitments, she cherishes spending time with her family and enjoys traveling, especially to the beach.

Jamey Williams is a clinical assistant professor in the Dunigan Family School of Nursing. She is a 2006 graduate of University of Southern Indiana's School of Nursing and received her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governors University in 2018. Most recently, Jamey coordinated the simulation education program at Deaconess Women's Hospital. She also continues to work as a bedside nurse on the pediatric and pediatric intensive care unit at St. Vincent's and holds a certification in pediatric nursing. She has a strong passion for education and improving healthcare in our community. She is married with three busy children and enjoys coaching soccer, traveling and anything outdoors.

Mrs. Breaha Wininger

Breaha is a clinical assistant professor in the Dunigan Family School of Nursing and is a board certified acute care nurse practitioner. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville in 2005 and her Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in 2011. Her primary clinical background is in critical care, specifically trauma and general surgery. She returned to southern Indiana in 2015 and has worked for Evansville Surgical Associates as an acute care nurse practitioner since that time. In 2023 she began her career in academia, first as an adjunct professor at University of Evansville and then in January 2024 as an assistant professor. Breaha enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling with family and friends in her spare time.

Mrs. Chantal Wood

Chantal is a clinical assistant professor of nursing. She is an Evansville native who graduated from University of Southern Indiana in 2011 with her BSN and completed her Master of Science in Nursing Education at Western Governors University in 2022. Her clinical experience includes the emergency departments at Deaconess Midtown and Deaconess Gibson. She has also served as the Director of Nursing at Hillcrest.

Chantal is certified as both a Lactation Counselor and a Trauma Nurse Specialist. She has also had training to be a pediatric, adolescent, and adult sexual assault nurse examiner, and helps to prepare other healthcare professionals for emergency situations as an ACLS instructor.

Chantal resides in Fort Branch, Indiana. In her free time, she likes to serve at church and go camping with her husband and four kids.

Dr. Toby Embry Zucker holds an Educational Doctorate Degree (EdD)from the University of San Francisco with a concentration in Learning and Instruction and a Dual master's in nursing education and Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialty. His research centers on innovative approaches to assessing higher learning in nursing education, including Objectively Structured Clinical Evaluations (OSCEs). With a strong focus on gerontological populations, Dr. Zucker is dedicated to advancing care in palliative and hospice settings, contributing to both clinical practice and nursing education.

Fedor-Bassemier's Full Biography

Joan Fedor-Bassemier is professor emerita in the Dunigan Family School of Nursing at the University of Evansville. Joan was instrumental in planning, developing and implementing state-of-the-art technology in the UE Simulation Lab and integrating simulation into the nursing curriculum.
